If there is a special Heaven for poets it has a new member today.
Here on Earth, Leonard Cohen will write no more,
He will sing no more.
He will also write and sing no less.
His legacy will endure.
Now he has joined the company of his immortal peers.
Now he among them,
with Homer and Ovid,
Shakespeare and Blake,
Byron and Shelly,
Yeats and Frost and Whitman,
Woody and Leadbelly,
Jimmy and Janice and Prince,
and so many others,
including those most prolific poets,
Traditional and Anonymous.
The true immortals do not really die.
They sing to us down the years and centuries and millennia
because the truths they tell are of the heart and soul.
If there is a special Heaven for Poets,
Leonard Cohen is welcomed there and honored.
Sing on, Leonard.
The angels are listening.
