TheFeatheredSleep – Swimming in deep water

The pool reflects deep with shallows, an opaque pearl
she has always been beautiful, even now, even then,
she dives without concern, because, what else can happen?
When people die, that’s how you feel, invulnerable in the face
of dreads previously unimagined
and also, terribly, terribly aware of pain.
Some hide the rest of their lives, others drive fast cars at night
not wearing their glasses
she is one of those who stands somewhere in-between
the grief of injury lies heavy on her dark shoulders
still, she plunges into water, imagining other realities
one where she never knew horror and horror never knew her
where babies were born perfect and whole
husbands did not get crushed in half and
soured settlements buys them luxury
they’d trade it all in, to have him whole
less angry, more able to be, swimming underwater with her.

Calico Jack – How to Resist
The other day or was it last week? I don’t know, the days and weeks all seem to blur together into one long run-on nightmare in the #GOPDystopia of fascism, incompetence, and fantasy-make-believe world, which is engorging like a seedy 70 year-old’s erection at a Bangkok hostess bar after dropping two Viagra before leaving the hotel room. It just seems to be more inflamed by the minute. Anywho. Sometime in the recent past, I saw Rachel Maddow pimp Timothy Snyder‘sOn Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, when she interviewed him about the paramilitary forces the Ol’ Pussy Grabber had deployed to Portland. Between the book and the interview there are many lessons to be learned, and I’ve written four blog posts to learn ’em! Be sure to check out the other three:

LuckyOtter – observations and support
People are having a hard time right now. America is no longer a very nice place to live. And due to Covid 19, which we have not been able to keep under control because we have a president who scoffs at science and experts, other countries have closed their borders to us, so we can’t escape even if we have the means to do so. We have become a pariah state. A shithole country.
The bullies seem to be winning, while those of us who want American democracy back are demonized and called terrorists and traitors and anarchists by the wannabe dictator in the White House and his fascist minions. Of course, they are projecting. They are the real traitors and terrorists, leaving nothing but chaos, death, and destruction in their wake. But they seem to have all the power right now, don’t they?
We are a failing state…

Calico Jack – Deciding who to vote for, or against.
We here at Ye Olde Blogge feel that this election is the most significant in the history of the US. It will determine whether we return to being the United States of America or continue being the United Fucking States of Fucking Stupid. If we are to remain the US, we elect Joe Biden and a Democratic senate. If we are the United Fucking States of Fucking Stupid, we’ll send the Ol’ Pussy Grabber back for another four years of paying pee-hookers to piss on the Resolute Desk, the Constitution, and American values and a Repube senate to finish the work of turning us into single-party pseudo-democratic minority-rule regime condemning us all to live in Cancer Alley, drink Flint water, and die quickly and quietly while they transfer the nation’s wealth to the 1% as quickly as possible. The funny thing is, we’ll…

LuckyOtter – a true meme
I saw this meme on Facebook. It sums up everything I’ve been feeling about American politics lately as well as the Covid 19 situation here in America.
As a society, we Americans have made some pretty terrible choices. We’re a supremely selfish society, bar none. And everyone but us seems to know it.
Thinking only of one’s own comfort at the expense of our fellow human beings only winds up hurting us in the end, too. No one wins.
Christine Ray – Dragon, not Damsel
you have mistaken me
for a damsel in distress
waiting upon a handsome prince
to rescue me
slay the dragon
to be under
the mistaken impression
that I have no backbone
that previous violations
of my boundaries
as a girl child
has left me spineless
to be implying
that I am looking
for the right man to come
and save me
from my darkness
lead me lovingly
into the light
from the broken thing
you seem to feel
you seem to believe
that when I write
about my sexuality
that this actually
has something to do
let me set
the record straight
I am the fucking dragon
I saved myself long ago
I have a steel-reinforced spine
a barbed tongue
that roars truth
I have learned to love
I have learned to love

TheFeatheredSleep – “captive on the carousel of time”
Thought I saw you today
resting on the cream tile beside our silver fridge
a sign of my eyes seeing ghosts or fading out?
The doctor said; Watch for ink marks and sudden black spots
just like your coat, as you leaned in to clean eternal
not you, this time, or ever more
only my shoes and socks, black and white as
recalling when we traveled, back when we could
before lock-downs, before freedom was something nobody
took for granted
how in the arroyo of the desert we climbed
cactus flowers and box turtles, lazy sunbathing snakes
finding purchase of indigo rock
how my spirit felt released in that stark landscape
greater than any city, eclipsing us
as you searched for things to kill and torture
though you possessed a kind heart
a little metaphorical
a little incidental?
Our bid for escape, as now we are closed and…
